Route 9W

Thinking of going to Kingston New York via Route 9W instead of the NY Thruway in October.

Has anyone done this?

If so, can you recommend things to see and restaurants to try?

Thanks

Re: Route 9W

Love the Hudson River Valley!

Most of my suggestions are on the other side of the Hudson but it's fairly easy to cross over.

Further south you have Tarrytown (lots of great restaurants) and Sleepy Hollow.

The town of Cold Spring is very scenic with an adorable Main Street. There are cute little shops and restaurants. There is a very good cafe on the left as you are walking toward the river and an Italian restaurant that I have never tried but looks nice. You can do river cruises or rent kayaks out of Cold Spring, too.

A little further up is Dia Beacon - a very big art gallery.

Also FDR's house and the Culinary Institute of America where you can have a very nice meal.

Across the river (on the side you were actually asking about lol) is Benmarl winery, which I love, and West Point.

New Paltz is a great town too.

There are also tons of historic sights throughout including a few of the gilded era mansions.

Have fun!
