Oh, and just wanted to clarify - I will NOT be running the whole thing - more like running/walking. I'm sure I will be one of the people waaaay towards the back

Ronkonkoma Run Around the Lake?
My mom is there every year she is good friends with Murphy.
Her bank Suffolk Federal are usually sponsors and my brother is in the Lt. Michael Murphy Navy Sea Cadet Corps.
It's a really great day for a great reason

Sorry I didn't get a chance to chat, but you were much further up than I was expecting There's about 30-45 minutes of pure chaos when the bulk of the runners are going by.
I heard that there were about 3000 people registered. I'll try and find out the actual total amount that ran. The rain might have scared some people off.
We set up the station in a torrential downpour, and cleaned up with blue skies...

No problem at all! it did really turn out to be a great day. We thought they might cancel when there was some thunder and lightening, but I'm glad they didn't. Wow- 3000! That's a lot! And I was surprised how many were there at 8:00
in the height of the downpour - definitely thought a lot more would have been scared off. Thanks so much for volunteering!

I just found out from one of the organizers that there were about 2050 runners this year. I'm sure the rain scared off a lot of the runners. Too bad, since the rain stopped right around when the race started.
We'll be at that station again next year!
