Robin Williams' wife issues statement
Robin Williams’ wife, Susan Schneider made this statement today on his passing: “Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child — Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid. Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles. Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly. It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

Robin Williams' wife issues statement
So beautifully written...
All I can hope is that his death won't be in vain and that the dialogue about depression, mental illness, and suicide prevention that is growing will continue to grow and awareness will increase.

Re: Robin Williams' wife issues statement
I really wonder if the Parkinsons had anything to do with his suicide. I would imagine he probably felt like his career would be over because of it. It probably contributed greatly to his depression

His passing is very sad but I don't think Parkinson's had to do with it. If thats the case wouldnt Michael J Fox be dead too. I think it was drugs. Still sad how someone who made people so happy could be so depressed.

Robin Williams' wife issues statement
Everyone has a different amount of what they can handle and I don't think he was on drugs...I think it was a combo of severe depression, anxiety, the Parkinson's dx and financial troubles. A lot of people couldn't handle all that. So heartbreaking.

That doesn't really make sense. Different people handle things differently. If he was already depressed I can see how a medical diagnosis like that could just add to the feeling of hopelessness.

Yes, I see this in my job all the time. People with newly diagnosed medical illnesses say stroke etc., grieve over the loss of "control" over their body and become severely depressed. This is so sad...

Robin Williams' wife issues statement
Maybe he decided to take matters into his own hands in terms of his Parkinson's diagnosis since his body & mind were his tools.
It's weird to say, but if this is the reason he did this (Like we'll ever really know) for me, it maybe cushions the blow of the how and why he decided to end his life.
I just wish he saw how many lives he touched and actually made different in a positive way, maybe he would've put this on hold for a little while.
I hope this makes sense.

what? This is bizarre logic. There are a lot of people who have taken their life for reasons other people would not.

Yes that makes more sense to me. Maybe it added to his feeling of hoplessness. The way i read it felt like an excuse. But I'm not in her shoes. Regardless it is still very sad to me. He was a great personality and the main shock is that someone who brought the broader public so much joy was masking all this pain on the inside. That's why I do think that maybe it was also the effects of drugs. I admit I could be wrong but I am still curious what the toxicology comes back with.

Michael J. Fox said in response to this that when he received his diagnosis he started drinking heavily , to the point where he joined AA. Everyone processes things like this differently, and for someone who already had severe depression this may have pushed him over the edge.
