Re: ricotta cheese?

I think if it is made in the US it has to be pasturized. Chat Icon

Re: ricotta cheese?

I had a fresh mozzerella sandwich from an Italian deli and they told me their "fresh" products were not pasturized...I ate it anyway bc I really wanted it. I would assume that if its factory packaged it should be pasturized.

Re: ricotta cheese?

If you are buying pre packaged ricotta from the supermarket, it is usually pasturized.
I cannot wait to have a big hunk of fresh mozzarella, I have been so good with really limiting cheeses

Re: ricotta cheese?

Personally...if I'm not sure of anything, I don't eat it. Just not worth the risk to me...

Re: ricotta cheese?

I eat Ricotta all the time - I didn't even think of it not being pasturized. I'll check my container now.

Re: ricotta cheese?

Any prepackaged ricotta like sargento, polly-o etc ricotta cheese is pastuerized, so is 99% of everything you buy in stores.

ENjoy your ricotta, mozzarella, yogurt, feta, cream cheese, sour cream, and the other cheeses. Even brie these days is pastuerized.

ETA: It will say it in the ingredient listing-usuallly it's the first ingredient is pastuerized milk, cream, etc...
