Rice Cereal for reflux?
DS is having trouble increasing the amt of formula he is getting. He gags a lot after he eats and occasionally spits up. Our dr thinks it could be reflux and suggested giving him 1 tsp of rice cereal in his bottle for every other ounce. He is on alimentum now and is 5 wks old. He takes 3 oz per feeding. Does anyone have experience with the rice ceral and does it help??

We had to do this with DS. It helped a bit. He still spit up, but not as much or as often. Now that DS is on solids (he is 6 months old) his reflux is getting better. What worked best for him was Zantac....

It definitely helps but depending on the severity of the reflux, it's not a cure-all. DD is also on Axid after being on Zantac and will probably need another medication change.

DS started rice cereal at 7 weeks. 1.5 teaspoons in a 5oz bottle, at the time. He wasnt spitting up, just screaming and in distress during feedings. It definitely helped and was also on zantac. His reflux wasnt too too bad to begin with so the rice and zantac and mylicon drops made a huge difference. HTH!
