Re: RH Negative

I am RH- and when I was pregnant I had to get a shot around 28 weeks and a shot within 48 hrs of birth or something. I am fuzzy on the exact times.

so many people have explained it to me, but I still dont get it.

All I know is that without the shots during a pregnancy, it could cause problems sustaining a future pregnancy.

Re: RH Negative

I am RH negative and my DH is RH positive, after my miscarriages I had to have a Rhogam shot to prevent my body from creating antibodies that will harm a future pregnancy,

Anytime an RH negative woman has a miscarriage, abortion or gives birth she has to receive the Rhogam shot bc the babies blood (if RH positive) can mix with the mothers blood and her immune system will create antibodies to fight off anything RH positive. This only becomes an issue the next time the mother is pregnant bc the immune system see the fetus as a foreign body and will begin attacking it.

Remember, this is only an issue if you are negative and your DH is positive.

My dr. told me next time I am pregnant I will have to receive the shot at 28 weeks and then once the baby is born and tested, if it is RH positive, then I will need another shot at birth. My dr. said it's totally treatable and not a big deal at all.

Re: RH Negative

sorry for crashing but I am Rh neg and when it was explained to me it was made to be not a serious problem. When I was pregnant I got a shot in the butt at 26 or 28 weeks than they said after delivery but DS is also A- so I did not need it.
What I was told was that when a pregnant women has a negative blood type and the baby does not her body may attack the fetus like a foreign body so they give a shot of Rhogam which clock the mothers cells from seeing the fetus cells and there for will not attack the cells.
