Does anyone know how this works? Do you get back store credit for the full amount of the item before the kohls cash or after? For example if something was $20 (say after any % off coupons), and then $10 kohls cash was applied to the purchase, would someone returning the item with a gift receipt get back store credit for $20 or $10?

I am pretty sure you get 10$ back and lose the kohls cash.

I'm pretty sure I always got a store credit for the total amount including the kohls cash. The website says:

If you are making a return or price adjustment on an item you bought with Kohl's Cash®, the value of the Kohl's Cash® coupon will be returned as a Kohl's Merchandise Credit.

Returning items to Kohls with gift receipts that were purchased with Kohls cash?

separate but related:
you lose kohls cash if you return the item that earned it--
for example if you bought $50 item, got $15 kohl's cash - when you return the item, you only get $35 back.

I know, how annoying is that? They used to give back store credit for the full amount but last time I returned something they said they had to subtract the amount of the kohls cash earned. What she ended up doing instead was returning the items without the receipt and giving me store credit for the lowest sale price, which ended up being more than what I paid minus the kohls cash.

That's bc stores lose a ton of money from dishonest people who purchase to get the kohls cash, or whatever store it may be, knowing they are going to return it after they use the cash/coupon. I had such big issues with this when I was manager at a retail store. Then, it was classified as a loss, like a theft, from my store. It started making our numbers get bad and I had to start returning items this way as well. It's not really fair to keep a coupon/cash on an item you return.

If you have an original receipt and did not use your kohls cash, then you get your full amount back. If you use the kohls cash then you get back less.

I understand that, and why stores have to have that policy. Its just annoying for people like me who does most of my Christmas shopping through kohls, so I end up with a lot of kohls cash, and pretty much all of the gifts I give either earned kohls cash or were paid for with it. So basically I shouldn't even bother giving gift receipts because I wouldn't want the gift recipients to be penalized if they have to return or exchange their gift.

Have you done this recently? I have to return $180 worth of stuff I got $30 Kohls cash on and I didn't use the cash. I would love to get the full amount back for it.

Yes. As long as the kohls cash has not been used or it expired before use, you will get back what you paid. They are able to tell if it was used.
