Returning a lease
Does anyone know how long it takes? danielles 2002 Civic is coming off lease, and we just want to return it. We already got another car to replace it.
Does anyone know what they ask us to do while we are there, Does it take longer than 1 hour to return a car? thanks, Scott

Re: Returning a lease
it can be done a few ways. The most likely way it will happen is that you call the leasing company, they arrange for an inspection and you bring it to the dealership. You take the plates off and go on your way.
You will probably get an invoice from them stating if there was any damage and if so, how much you owe.
You don't even have to be there for the insepction, you can leave it at the dealer with the keys and that's that.

Re: Returning a lease
I dropped off my old car, gave them the keys, and went on my merry way. If there is anything more than normal wear and tear, or you are over milage, they will send you a bill.

Re: Returning a lease
We already had the off lease inspection done last month. We dont owe anything.
Do they take the plates off, or do I have to bring a screw driver

Re: Returning a lease
you can get them to take the plates off for you. You are going to want a receipt from the dealer stating that you have returned it.

Re: Returning a lease
You sure they arent going to try to make us lease another car from them.....I bet they do. I hate the dealer we have to return the car too. We had a bad experience there last year

Re: Returning a lease
call them first. Tell them that your lease is up, you had the inspection and you need to turn the car in. If it's from the same dealership you bought the car from, they have to take it back.
if they approach you about a new car just tell them you are not in the market for a new car at this time.

Re: Returning a lease
Scott, you have to get a receipt for the turn in..if you don't you could be held accountable for the car.

Re: Returning a lease
Scott I am doing this now. i am returning my lease and am getting another car through a different company.
Nissan is coming in for a pre inpection. they come to my house for free and inspect the car and give me a report of what I need fixed etc... (excess wear tear) then I get to fix it on my own BEFORE I turn in the car..
once I get the inspection I have to call Nissan and arrange for me to drop it off.

Re: Returning a lease
Do I have to bring it back to the dealer she leased it from or can I bring it to another dealer? There is a honda dealer right near my house

Technically, you can bring it to another dealer (my DH took the lease back from my brother who leased from a Toyota dealer), but to be on the safe side, I'd go to where you leased it and where all your paper work is filed. You don't want to get screwed if something goes screwy.

melissa I am going through this now. What i like about nissan is that they come to my house to inspect the car and they let me know what is normal wear and tear and what needs to be fixed. then i can get it fixed on my own BEFORE i turn in the lease. I think if I just turned it in they would probably over charge me. JMO.... you should call them and see if they can do a pre inspection for you.....
