Returning a car after a lease
I've never been through the leasing process before and I have a lease that is up in April (not keeping the car) so I just had some questions on how it works when you return the car. If you are shopping for another lease, in your experience how many months in advance did you start shopping? Also if you had a disposition fee, is that billed directly by the dealer when you return the car (along with a bill for any scratches, etc)?

Re: Returning a car after a lease
I was told on our recent lease that if we lease another car from them when we return it they will waive the disposition fee as well as up to $500 in damages and overlook some mileage overages as well. A very smart way to try to get you back in one of their cars.
Not sure all dealers are the same on this though.
But yes, any fees will be billed to you by the dealer when you turn it in and you will have to pay it right then and there I believe.

I've leased from the same dealership for over 10 years.. I've never paid a disposition fee because I did re-lease with them. I'm always way under miles, but I did have some damage with my last car and they waived all the costs.
I usually start looking about 6 months out... Atlantic Nissan will allow for a new lease w/o any penalties or having to pay the last months payments with in that time frame. I always like to give myself time so I'm not 'desperate' to get a car.. I can get up and walk out if I don't like the deal I'm getting.

The fees are billed by the leasing company. You will receive a bill from them. The dealer has no part of the transaction once you drive off the lot on day one.

Sorry, meant leasing company. I have that in my agreement.

Returning a car after a lease
My lease is also up in April I am going to start test driving cars this month. I know I may have to order the exact car I want so I want enough time to do that if I need to. About 2 or so months before lease is up they will send out someone to inspect the car. As others have said they will also waive disposition few if you re-lease with the same company.

Technically, you owe money if you turn it in early. What some dealerships will do when you turn it in is to roll in remaining months into your new lease.
Some manufacturers will help you stay within that brand if you want by waiving fees (wear and tear, dispo, early termination). Not all of them do it but they may say they are taking care of it but its rolled into to your new numbers (money gotta come from somewhere as it just does not magically disappear).
As others said, you will be invoiced for wear and tear a few weeks after its grounded and inspected.

Returning a car after a lease
Depends on the car company and leasing company. Usually has nothing to do with the individual dealership. For example through Honda, damage is covered up until a certain amount. I have my car inspected through Honda's lease inspection company. They give me an inspection report that I bring when I give the car back. I gave my my Accord back in July and didn't lease another Honda. There was no fee and the dealer just took the car back along with the inspection report. That's it. You may want to call the leasing company/bank to find out the procedure to turn the car in. I would only start looking for new cars close to the date because you have to pay regardless of when you turn in the car.

Most times if you don't get a car that is the same make your not getting billed the dispo or damage fees because the dealers purchase the cars for inventory so the factory never sees the final condition of the vehicle.

Returning a car after a lease
I am dealing with this nightmare right now. Turned in our Jeep and bought a Lincoln. We rolled a few payments/miles into the Lincoln. Got a bill from the leasing company for $1500 worth of wear and tear, miles and lease termination fees. A month after the car left my possession. So aggravated and I'm definitely fighting it.

Wow! That's insane. I really hope I don't get hit with a surprise bill like this. The disposition fee which i think is $495 I know for sure we will get hit with because we don't plan on sticking with the same brand of car.

Returning a car after a lease
i left toyota for chevy 4 months early. chevy paid my remaining 4 payments and helped cover some bumper damage. toyota charged me $350 disposition fee for leaving. if i would have stayed with would have waived it.
