repost: Goodwill, shelters

looking for a place that might need furniture and home goods but not a place that is going to re-sell it after we give it to them?

Thanks!

Re: repost: Goodwill, shelters

we just donated like 5 bags FULL of clothes, and household items to Big Brother, Big Sisters. we got a card in the mail from them, telling us the date they'd be coming down our street, and all we had to do was leave the bags curbside along with their card, and they came by and picked up everything.

Goodwill and St. Vincent de Paul do resell it but the money goes back into charitable work. I have a second cousin who is slightly mentally retarded and she has worked at the Goodwill store for about 30 years. Back then, no other business would have hired her. She loves her job, talks about it all the time Chat Icon

There is a St. Vincent de Paul store on Jericho in Dix Hills (?) and a Goodwill Store on Jericho in East Northport.

Goodwill is an excellent organization. A few of my clients work at programs run through them. I donate to them all the time. I've even purchased many household things there too.Chat Icon

You can also check your local church if they have an Outreach program. They might know of a family who needs furniture.

Veteran's Association will collect clothes and furniture from your home. They come and pick it up from your doorstep. I usually get a post card about 1x a month.

Re: repost: Goodwill, shelters

what about donating to a womens' shelter? I know there is some sort of group home in STony Brook on STony Brook Rd. My best friend just donated a bunch of baby stuff to a battered womens shelter and they cried!
