Out of 19 retrieved, only 9 fertilized :(
This is my first time, is that bad number? I was hoping for more. I am scheduled for day three, was hoping for day five.
I am sad ??

Re: Report is in
9 is still great! Don't be sad! Like we said it only takes 1. As for the day 3 or 5...I had day 5 last time and it was a failed cycle so there is no guarantee either way. I believe day 3 allows the embryo to be where it belongs rather than a labratory. I was actually hoping they would do a day 3 for me for that reason. GL!

good number. rememerb they select the very best ones. I had 27 retrieved and only 13 fertilized out of which one was used and 6 frozen. so as long as u have several its all good. not sure abt the dif of day 5 or 3 transfer. I think it has all to do with ur Dr office.

I got three eggs last month and 2 fertilized....if that puts things into perspective for you! I think 9 is terrific!!! I am aiming for a number like that this month (we batched and froze our 2).

Re: Report is in
9 is perfectly fine!
That's similar to my 1st and 3rd IVF cycles. For my first, I had around 30 follicles and was shocked to learn that of all those follicles, only 9 were retrieved and ultimately only 4 fertilized. I got pregnant with triplets that cycle, but miscarried around 8 weeks.
My 2nd ER isn't even worth mentioning because I had 30 eggs and 25 fertilized, it wasn't similar to yours at all...
buttttt... my 3rd ER and so far successful cycle, I had 9 eggs retrieved 7 fertilized.
The QUALITY is what matters, NOT THE QUANTITY!!
eta: I did a 5dt after 3rd ER. There's no reason for them to automatically assume a 3dt unless there was a quality issue.

Re: Report is in
9 is great!! I had 18 retrieved and only 4 fertilized. I went in for a 3 day transfer and they transferred one 8 cell embryo. It took and I am now 22w pregnant.
7,8, and 9 cell embryos are best for transferring.
Totally be optimistic!!!!

Re: Report is in
Definitely ask about the quality of the embryo they are transferring. They likely will not give you a grade for a day 3 transfer but they should tell you how it is dividing.

9 is a great number. The first time I had 28 retrieved 18 fertilized and the second time I had 29 retrieved and 19 fertilized. Each time we had 2 blasts to transfer at day 5. For my first IVF I had nothing to freeze. For my second and hopefully last IVF we had one to freeze which we are doing an FET with this month.
Moral of the long asss story is that quantity doesn't always mean quality. Although we had a lot apparently they died out. I see women on here and other boards who have way less fertilize than I did but end up with better quality embies that are able to be frozen.
Either way 9 is a great number and definitely above average. As far as 3dt vs 5dt my old RE Dr. T told me that really some embies do better in their natural environment so don't stress.
Good Luck

Perspective - all you need is ONE. Literally
I had 10 retreived...8 were only able to be fertilized. 6 fertilized. Day 5 transfer I had ONE. I'm pregnant with my singleton. 14 weeks!
Just keep that in mind...only takes one! Don't compare yourself to others...
btw, i was scheduled for a day 3t as well...they called me on day 3 and was rescheduled to day 5t.
Good luck
