Repeat C/Sec Questions

I'm going in on Friday for a repeat c/sec. The first one was an emergency after my induction failed.

The first time, they broke my water b/c I was being induced. Will they do that this time? (I hope so!)

Just curious what the whole procedure is like? I would've asked at my last appt. BUT, I was in so my pain from my broken back I couldn't think straight.

Share your experience if you've had a repeat please.

Thanks!!!!

Going on repeat #3 Chat Icon

DS was scheduled and they did not have to break my water or go anywhere near my hoo-ha

With DD I went into labor just a few hours before my scheduled c-section and my water broke in the parking lot of the hospital Chat Icon Had my c-section shortly there-after....

Basically you go to the hospital, they hook you up to the IV....You will go down for your spinal and in the room you go for the c-section...

I have never labored, but from everyone I speak to , a scheduled c-section is way easier than having one after having labored....Both of mine so far were great Chat Icon

Re: Repeat C/Sec Questions

Thanks! I labored for a few hours w/ DD. Because we tried to induce, they broke my water.

Even w/ breaking my water, I ended up having what I call "Captain Cave Man" legs w/ the extra fluid that had no where to go. I can't imagine what my legs are going to feel like if they don't break my water or get rid of it somehow???

I did have swelling after my c-sections but have also heard of people having swelling after V-births as well, so I'm not sure how much is a c-section thing and how much of it is a pregnancy thing in general...

Good question Chat Icon !!

I swelled more with my DS than with DD (with DS I couldnt even get my shoes on Chat Icon )...DD it went down much faster!

Oh man!!! I guess I'm about to find out on Friday.

Lots of water right? that'll help drain the water out if I constantly have to go. I remember it hurt so bad to walk b/c I couldn't move my Cancles!

Yes, you will still bleed believe it or not...When I had my DS , for whatever reason I thought I would be spared that but NOT Chat Icon Definately will need pads (the hospital will also provide their pads if you would like to use them)

As far as swelling, do you mean your "womanly region"? If so, no I did not have any swelling down there...legs, feet etc yes ....

Sorry, just got a goodChat Icon "womanly region".

Yes, I had bleeding too, but no swelling except in my legs. The swelling is from the water, it has no place else to go. I also had severe gas pains in my shoulders. There are gas pockets that will travel, since you were cut. BRING IT! UGH.. so not looking forward to this part

DH did tell me that they suck all the fluid into something during the c/s.

Re: Repeat C/Sec Questions

It's so surreal. Even moreso than the first because you know what to expect.

You walk in, they have you fill out the paperwork. Get changed. Drink some nasty shot. You walk in, get the spinal, and then that's it.

I had a panic attack minutes before they took me in because I was so nervous about something happening to me and thinking about Jack. I got over that fear real quickly and just relaxed.

Be prepared that it may take them longer this time because of scar tissue. I remember being on the table for a long time without Tyler even being out.

The recovery, for me, was much easier the second time around.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Repeat C/Sec Questions

I had a crash for DS so I was not up at all. I do remember the gas pain in my shoulders. Ouch! They gave me a hot compress for it and gave me gas meds. I don't think it worked too well.
Don't remember any swelling, but lots of bleeding. I left a trail a few times going to the bathroom. Yuck!

This time will be scheduled c so I wondered what the difference will be. This time I'll be awake and more alert so that will already be a plus

Never had any labor pains and my water didn't break with DS.
Hopefully there's no swelling.
I had to walk around first thing at 5AM the next day to the bathroom with the nurses. That was not fun, but they do say the faster you start walking the better so try and do that at the hospital. They gave out great slipper socks that I got a few pairs and wore every day.

Thanks! I hope this time is much easier than the first too! We shall see. Let's just hope I don't have to shovel out the path to the hospital!
