renting furniture?

I know it sounds strange - it always has to me, but:


we just bought a cheapie couch in July. Our kids peed all over the old one and we couldn't take it. We have been in the process of selling our house, so we didn't want to buy an expensive set, since we don't know where we will put it in the next house.


Well our kids have destroyed this cheapie couch - in 6 months (less really, we just can't take it anymore)


We still don't want to buy a good expensive set, but we don't want to throw away $800-1000 (which after tax and delivery, etc that's what the cheapie couches come out to) on a cheapie couch and need it to look nice for when we relist our house.


We thought about renting, but on the rentacenter website, they aren't very giving of information, like price and insurance (as our kids will destroy this couch as well, I assume)


Does anyone have information on renting furniture?

what about a used couch off craigslist? Seems like it may be a better option if its just going to get destroyed (I can't see a rental place being happy about taking back a couch they can't rent again).

If you rent it and it gets destroyed, won't you have to pay for it anyway???

What about a slip cover that is machine washable?

I thought about a used couch, but since we are listing our house, I thought the odds of finding something that looks show ready would be against us.


We were hoping that renting places offered some kind of insurance, so that if we destroy it, there won't be a problem.


A slipcover isn't going to cut it. Our current couch's frame is broken (in 6 months!) from two rough and tumble boys. That's the bigger problem now that they are a little older.


Rent a center wants all kinds of info (SS, work etc) before they will even give us a quote online, but I might try to go to the actual store this weekend.
