Renting dumpster, etc.
I need to empty out my mom's house and was considering renting a dumpster and hiring a couple of guys to do the emptying. I don't even know where to start, how much it costs, etc. Anyone have any advice?
ETA: It's in Brooklyn.

I'm not sure how much you have to throw out but when we cleared out my mom's apartment in Brooklyn last September, we threw a lot out every week in garbage bags and then had 1-800-GOT-JUNK pick up the big stuff (a couch, two mattresses and bed frames, an old tv). They charge based on how much room your stuff takes up in their truck. It was relatively painless, cost about $500.

Thank you, this is so helpful as I didn't even think of them. I will definitely give them a call.

We called one of the Junk Company's too for my Grandma's condo. We went through her stuff first and threw out all the garbage and made sure there wasn't anything important left or something we wanted to keep. Then the Junk guys came and took everything else. They charged us by the truckload and was around $500.
