How is it? Is it soft? Is there room for negotiation?

Re: Rental market on LI
i think there is room because not many people are buying houses, it is starting to charge slightly so this would be the time to look.

Re: Rental market on LI
I would think with all the forclosures the rental markets would be booming and prices up.

Re: Rental market on LI
I just see more availabilities in these complexes as opposed to 2 years ago when I was looking.
Almost all of the complexes have availabilities and more than one unit.
The complex my folks live in did not increase the rent.
It makes me think the rental market is softer.

Re: Rental market on LI
I dont see the market being soft. DH and I had basically agreed that our best bet were the lake grove apartments since they were the most reasonable with regard to 2 bedrooms. I just went back to the website and they have gone up and would say they are not competitive for what they offer now.

Re: Rental market on LI
my apartment was listed orginally at $2400
we are paying $2150 (2 bed/ 1.5 bath oceanview)
and we got the realor fee paid- saving us another $2150 or $2400
so total savings for the year- over $5K
not too bad IMO
it's the first time I was ever able to get money off the rent on LI- in the city after 9/11/01 I was able to get $100 off the rent -
the reason we were able to get such a deal now is b/c the apartment was empty for almost 2 months and we said we could move in that same week
only 1 bedrooms are hot in Long Beach- 2 bedrooms tend to sit- so it was to our advantage to take the 2 bed or a 1
the 1 bedroom in my building is half the size and only $500 less a mont, view, no terrace

Sorry to hear that. My folks are in Victorian Gardens and their rent is extremely reasonable but they aren't completely happy there.
Saddle Rock is very nice but more money and you have to pay for heat.

Re: Rental market on LI
I don't have first hand experience with complex rentals but the private unit market is very soft. I have relatives with units that have been empty for 6 months + I think more & more people are going back to living with parents, adult children or other family members to save money

Re: Rental market on LI
I just recieved my lease renewal option...it hasn't gone up, but it hasn't gone down.
I heard that they have been offering great deals on rent when you first move in, but then after a year your rent goes up.
