Renovating/Improvements

We bought our house over a year ago and refinished our MBR which was about a $4000 project and DH does all work except spackling! Chat Icon

How long has it taken you to get to all your projects and what have they cost you? I hate being in debt so we are not doing anything else yet but it's driving me nuts to not even have painted yet (because we need to re-rock pretty much the whole first floor, its a horrble tape and spackle job underneath and all nails are popping through).

It's just so expensive and frustrating. Anyone with me????

Re: Renovating/Improvements

It's a little over a year later and we're on our 5th room - the LR (construction is happening as I type!!!)...and after this it leaves us the kitchen (which will be gutted) before we decide whether to dormer the upstairs or finish a portion of the basement.

We've done everything from gutting a bathroom (hired this job out entirely except for the painting) to repairing plaster to painting to removing plaster walls to insulate and rock to adding hi-hats and other overhead lighting (hired out the electrical work) to outdoor projects...one project at a time. We set a basic budget (had to include furnishings, etc) and go from there. The LR will be the most expensive to date (slightly more than the bathroom)...only b/c of the newly purchased electronic equipment, new window & front door and the electrical work. But it's worth it to make our house, our home...

Everything goes into spreadsheets - each project gets its own sheet and everything is broken down to the penny.

Have patience...take on one thing at a time - or as your budget allows you. Unless you plan on flipping, you're not going anywhere for a good 10-30 years Chat Icon
