Remodeling $$$

Just curious about how everyone funds their remodels or home improvements.

Maybe I should include a poll?

HELOC?
Savings?
Lottery winnings?
Retirement accounts?
Sugar Daddy/Mama?
Credit cards?

Re: Remodeling $$$

savings. or home depot CC at 0%.

we have a lot of property and will most likely to a large extension in a few years if we do stay in this house, which will cost over $100K, so at that point we would refi/heloc.

Re: Remodeling $$$

when we bought the house the first remodeling was from our savings.

The Family Room Remodel is from our tax return this year.

We haven't done one project on this house that we didn't have the actually cash for. So far it's worked for us. We also have a tenant in our house right now, so that is helping as well. So it's our Savings account all the way.

Re: Remodeling $$$

We plan on using our first time homebuyers $8,000 towards a new roof next year.

We also agreed that since we only need cosmetic things done, we would use our tax refund money each year to update the house.

Re: Remodeling $$$

Up until this year it's been savings and income. We did some major renovations this year and put a portion of it on a HELOC. We expect to have that paid down by the end of the year and other than the mortgage it's the only loan / debt we have. No student loans, car payments, CC debt, etc. and it's just a small fraction of the equity we have in the home so we're not over-leveraged.

Re: Remodeling $$$

Typically when DH gets a bonus, we will use that. Our most recent project (patio, walkways, outdoor furniture, lighting, landscaping) we've used our tax return $$ so as not to disturb our savings.

Re: Remodeling $$$

We haven't done anything major, but we have bought most of our furnishings/decor from our bonuses.

Re: Remodeling $$$

Savings - we put our tax return money into savings each year so that makes up a portion of it.

Ditto. And I am noticing that we get such a better deal with contractors when we say we will pay cash!

Re: Remodeling $$$

when we first purchased the house we used some 0% CCs now we use savings/bonus money for everything.
We've been in our house 5 years & we've never had a HELOC. We are considering a refi to take advantage of these crazy rates but we will not take cash out.
