relocating to Northern New Jersey

My DH and I are going up to NJ this weekend to look at some areas in Northern Jersey (Stillwater, Sparta, Lafayette)

We live in Southampton now and we are sick of how expensive everything is out here!! and my DH job has him traveling all over NY and NJ so it would be easier to be off the Island...
anyway...
Does anyone have any suggestions of places we should also look...
we want rural.. and would like to be able to have 1+acres of land.. but not be so far away from stores, etc. and good school districts are very important also!

Re: relocating to Northern New Jersey

I grew up in Parsippany- excellent school district- I dont know if they have that much land though- I'll ask my mom

eta- called my mom and she said that no one in parsippany has an acre- she suggested Bedminster- its a little more central, but her cousin lives there and loves it- lots of space but near shopping and the schools are supposed to be good too

Re: relocating to Northern New Jersey

I'm a little familar with Sparta but not the other two areas. Sparta is more rural than other parts of Northern NJ so I think it would provide a reasonable mix for you. I believe the school district is good. There are some gorgeous homes being built in that area that are significantly cheaper than others in NJ that are a little closer to the city. However, watch out for taxes because they can run you really high. DH's cousin had a mini mansion built in Sparta and his taxes were $22k!

I would look in these areas. We live here - it is really nice. The school districts are rated very well. They have lots of land. Near farms and shopping.

Bedminster
Basking Ridge
Chester
Mendham
Convent Station
Gladstone
Peapack
