So NY is toooo expensive! If you're thinking of relocating how on earth do you find a job? If you dont' live where you're thinking of moving to?

Re: relocating
I started by looking at the same size / feel of the company I have. AKA my competitors etc. Did they have offices in the areas I was willing to move to. I picked multiple states and looked at both my own company and theirs.
Luckily for me my job had an opening in Texas. But I would have taken one in Georga, Arizona, Florida or the Carolinas. I gave myself a 1yr goal to get my resume to all of those states but a 1yr also to see if my company had any openings. Considering my company size and the recent merger, it was for me more likely to take a transfer and that's what I did.
Get up to date on phone interview techniques, understand state impacts (licensing, state regulatory impacts on your position, etc).
Looked up Department of Labor statistics for cost of living and median pay differences. Never just took one number as 'it' crunched numbers to see if a move would really help or not, etc.
Good Luck
