Regular OB/GYN that does infertility
I'm now on my third cycle of clomid and I'm REALLY starting to lose hope!
The problem is that my dr. only does clomid and I can't go to an RE because my insurance won't cover it.
Does anyone know of any dr's in Suffolk that do fertility drugs besides clomid?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Regular OB/GYN that does infertility
I don't know anybody, but I just wanted to tell you not to get down and not to count out Clomid if you have not been monitored. Has your doc been doing ultrasounds to see how many follicles you are producing? If not, then I wouldn't get too down because you don't really know what is going on.
Have you had any other testing done, like an HSG? Your regular OB can send you for that and also your DH for a semen analysis.
Good luck!

Re: Regular OB/GYN that does infertility
I am being monitored on the clomid
1st round of 50 I O'ed on day 24
2nd round of 50....nada and we crashed the cycle
Now I'm day 14 on 100 mg and nothing yet.
I've also already gone for the HSG (everything was fine) and DH went for the semen analysis...he's fine too

Re: Regular OB/GYN that does infertility
Did you try Dr. Braverman - hes an OB not an RE (even though he exclusively does RE)
The insurance should cover b/c he falls under OB

You might want to ask your OB about about Femara instead of the Clomid. I responded better and had less side effects on that.

Just a quick question...
I have an RE but when sonos and BW are done I have to pay my co-pay $50, which during 1 cycle can be around $300 because I go 6 times in a cycle. But when I go to my OB/GYN, I have unlimited sonos and BW, with no co-pay. If I were to switch my OB/GYN to Braverman with my insurance company, he would be able to do basically the same things my RE does, but under the title OB/GYN?
Not that I would do this, but if things don't go the way I'd like next cycle, it's something to think about.

Re: Regular OB/GYN that does infertility
It's a coding issue.
Clomid is a really cheap drug. You could cover it OOP and it would be about $10 a cycle.
If you are taking another drug, and getting other monitoring, they would have to put down a diagnosis (coding). This diagnosis is what your insurance company sees. If your Ob can put a different "diagnosis" for a drug and procedure (ultrasound)... it could be missed under "infertility" by your insurance company, but it's shady billing and unethical.
So...it's not RE or OB/GYN, but YOUR diagnosis.
Companies are different in what they cover: one of my insurance companies had covered bloodwork. The other did not. Some will cover sonos and IUIs. others nothing, others everything with a cap.
My advice: you probably need to start thinking about setting some money aside, either in a flex-spending account, or in a bank account for this. I did this early, It was hard, but it really helped.
You also should be sure that you are getting appropriate & comprehensive care (did your DH do a SA?, did you do an HSG?, are you producing follicles and how many on Clomid? How's your uterine lining?).
