Registry tips
Share what you registered for - specifically if you were NOT finding out what the babies sex is a head of time.
Also, how many people usually come to baby showers? Do you register based on that? I know a few out of town friends asked me to forward them my registry info when I get it. I really don't have a lot of friends and family in the area anymore... can I suggest a small luncheon instead. I don't want to look rediculous registering for a million things and only have 10 people at a shower.

Re: Registry tips
Keep in mind that most stores give you a discount to complete the registry. so don't worry about how it looks. There were 40 people invited to my shower, 30 in attendance, and 148 items on my registry.

Re: Registry tips
I registered for all I need, regardless of the amount of people were / weren't coming. I figured I select what I want now, and what ever no one buys I will, but I will already know what I need.
In addition to what was posted, I registered for: burp cloths wash cloths toys - crib mirror, soothing bear (for white noise)... etc bottle cooler - that keeps bottles cold/fresh for 3 hours, and one for 12 bottle sterilizer - Avent Towels diaper bag

Re: Registry tips
Also keep in mind people might buy you items from the registry after the baby is born not just for the shower.

Re: Registry tips
The best tip I got was having my girlfriend who has 2 kids come with me to register, she was a BIG help. She told me waht was essential and what was a waste.

Re: Registry tips
I'm in a similar boat and have suggested to my family that a luncheon may be nice. I don't expect DH's cousin's to go "out of there way" these days (considering one of them didn't even rsvp our wedding). I have a small family. But I am registering for what I need, especially the larger items. I'm not registering for bibs and onesies... I figure people will give those anyway and if I need to buy some it's affordable. With DH out of work I need help with the higher ticket items such as the breast pump (I need the pricey one b/c I need to store the milk for several hours and I don't work in an office, I work out of my car so it's going to be interesting), the high chair, travel system, pack n play, etc. Most of the items will be the $50 and over stuff.
I too have gotten requests from out of towners to forward the registry when we have it together. I plan on completing it in January.
