I was wondering this too...if anyone knows please let us know...DH and I went through HELL with SIL's registry because no one told us it was done and I don't want my family to get SOL on gifts because people cannot wait until it's officially ready.

I don't think you can. I wanted to start slowly and not have it public till it's finished, but in my searches, it looks like you can't.

Yes when you registered you had the option to do this.

Registry Help
I started mine online and just put in a fake name instead of my real name. When you're ready to publish it, you are able to go back and edit your personal details. The you can enter your real name so people can search you. :)

You can make it private in the store, but they told me that if you do make it private, you're not able to view or edit your own registry online either.... so i did the same thing as a previous poster... used a fake name and changed it to my real name when I was ready
