Registering: BRU vs BBB

So, I went to BBB on my lunch break today- and I was really impressed with it. Things were very easy to find- the people were really friendly. They seemed to have alot of selection. I've been in the store once before- when I was buying a shower gift for a friend over a year ago- but I guess since I'm PG- I'm looking at it with "new eyes"

Whenever I go to BRU- it always seems that people that work there are not that helpful- and I dont find things easy to find.

So- now I"m thinking, maybe I should register at BBB.

Does anyone have any pros/cons for both stores?

I completely agree with you on this. However....we opted to do both stores since BRU tends to run out of stuff pretty quickly and always seem low on inventory. This could just be my experience..but each time I have gone to BRU they are always low on something. I would do both...can't hurt..and you may find things at BBB that you may not be able to find at BRU.

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

The only problem I had with BBB was that no one can purchase items online and they do not have a lot of stores. Therefore if someone does not live on LI, I wanted to give them the option of buying online. We registered at BRU. I like BBB better, but BRU had online purchasing and more stores in NY, NJ, CT, and PA. HTH Chat Icon

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

I have registered at both.

I find the selection to be different. I prefer the BBB store and selection but when it comes to online registry, BRU is so much easier. BBB does not have all their selection online, it's not as easy to see, you cannot "click" on an item to see details, you have to go to the store to scan produtcts.

The PNP I chose is not at BRU so I put it on my BBB registry and vice versa for selection at BRU that I want (or cheaper!).

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

I have registered at both & here is what I have found:

More people find BRU convenient b/c there are more locations.

BBB does not have the most user-friendly website.

BRU is not helpful once you are in the store, for the most part.

BRU will not tell you if something on your registry is being discontinued, whereas I have gotten emails from BBB to tell me that a pattern or item is being discontinued.

More things BY FAR are being purchased off of my BRU registry.

Now this is of course my personal experience. I have a lot of OOT folks, so the phone & web support thing is a big deal.....

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

I initally registered at both, then changed to BRU only.

My biggest reason I didn't keep the BBB one was it's for "locals" only and I had a decent amt of OOT people.

I also always thought things were more $$ at BBB than BRU. Until I went to purcahse the Ultimate Crib sheet. It was $3 LESS at BBB than BRU!

ETA: ultimately if someone wants to buy something from BBB they will. A friend did that with me, bought something that was on my BRU registry but bought it at BBB, I know b/c she wrapped it at the store and the paper said BBB!

I have also noticed that BRU runs out of things frequently. However, I feel silly registering at both but now maybe I will.

I did both. BBB had a few things that BRU didn't and vice versa.

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

Originally I was just going to do BBB - for no special reason - I decided to register at both - and I have also found that my BRU registry cleared out alot faster then my BBB.

I only registered at BRU, and my experience at the store I went to was very pleasant. It could have just been that store, but I found everyone to be very helpful!! I went to the store by the Islip Airport(I guess that is the Islip store).

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

We registered at both. BBB had several items that BRU didn't carry. In the end, we received a lot from both registries.

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

I registered only for BRU. I like the BBB as well but thought their prices were a bit higher. Also most of my family members know about BRU so that is another reason.

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

I registered at both-I live in eastern suffolk so BRU is more convenient for people who live near me while BBB is more convenient for my family in Huntington and Nassau County.

Re: Registering: BRU vs BBB

Here is a prior post from me about BRU. I live right near one and I won't be registering there:

My plan is for BBB and possibly Target. I wish there were other choices. BBB is not located conveniently for everyone.

I do not want to upset people who registered at Babies R Us but I would want to know if this happened to someone wherever I register:

I ordered a registry gift at Babies R Us for a friend, to be sent directly to the friend (friend lives in NJ and I am in NY). About a month and a half after I placed my order, I learned that it had not shipped yet (my friend didn't receive anything by then). The customer service rep had no explanation other than the fact that it appeared that the warehouse had not made any effort to fill the order yet. In the meantime, some of the items I had ordered went out of stock. At that point, I asked the customer service rep to cancel my entire order and asked whether a cancellation would go through before it was shipped. She said that they must check the system again before pulling or shipping the order and that the cancellation would go through immediately. The very next day, after waiting all that time, I suddenly got an e-mail saying that the items that were in stock were shipped to my friend. I called customer service and they told me that if I still wanted to cancel my order, I should just have my friend send the items back. Well, I think that would be so rude of me to ask of my friend. But I was embarrassed that my friend would think that the few things that were shipped comprised my entire gift (because the other items were out of stock). My gift was already very late at that point. So, I called BRU to make sure that that my order for the remaining items were cancelled. I was done with BRU by then!!!!!! I went to Target and bought some outfits and shipped them myself so that I sent enough to my friend. I was only billed for what BRU shipped but that is not the point. I later explained the entire thing to my friend and he complained to BRU, as I had. I did not have the time to speak to a supervisor, so I did not take the complaint very far. I was not pregnant at the time, so I didn't care if they sent me a coupon for my troubles. The customer service rep did tell me that was likely. I hope my friend got one.

So, I will not register at BRU. I will more than likely shop there on my own, but only because it is in a convenient location.
