ReGeneration Camp in Brookhaven

Has anyone ever sent their child there? It is a month long summer camp from 9am-1pm that is FREE of charge to anyone living in the Town of Brookhaven (ages 5-12). It sounds too good to be true.

Any feedback is appreciated. TIA

They have them at 4 different park. One in Farmingville, Coram, Shirley and Centereach. I've never sent my DD, but I think I might this year instead of paying almost $2000 for camp!

Not a fan. First off, the programs are huge, well the one at Diamond in the Pines was. Hundreds of kids. We did a smaller park one year and it was just okay. Better than the huge park. The counselors are teens. So most of them are more interested in socializing amongst themselves, instead of with the children. Which might be okay if this was a closed setting, put it's a public park, where anyone, including creeps, can come.

The town offers another option that is inside certain school buildings. I think it's $200 for the entire session for 3 hours a day or something like that. The info is also in the Town guide. We have not done that one, but I would choose that over the public park ones. I believe those are run by teachers.

P.S., I just looked at the paperwork and it looks like it has changed a bit. It used to be 9-12 then you pick up for lunch, then again from 1-3. Maybe they revamped the program, and have stepped up the supervision too. So since it's free, it might be worth it to try, but I would avoid the Diamond in the Pines location. But keep in mind they enroll 900 kids in 4 sites, so that is 225 kids at each.

Here is a link to the recreation guide, go to page 4 for last year's info on the indoor program. They have to have already completed kindergarten though.

Thanks so much for the input.
I am definitely going to look into the indoor one as well. I didn't even know they had one.

Thanks so much for the response. I was closed out this year, but will be on my game next year. We did the Centereach Camp and he loves it, but if I can save $500 that would be great.
