Refinishing stairs?

Hello,
I'm pretty new here, but thought I would ask this question here. The previous owners of our house thought it'd be a great idea to cover the interior stairs with ugly laminate crap, and to paint the banister white/black. I also believe they also painted the steps themselves black (underneath the hideous laminate). Anyway, its an old house, so we'd like to keep the original stairs/banister if possible. Would I call a floor company, or a carpenter or someone else to come and refinish it? Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks for any and all help.

I wood call a hardwood company. Do a search on this board and you will find a lot of recommendations for hardwood companies! GL!

We had our stairs refinished by the hardwood floor company. At first, they did a horrible job, and we asked them to redo it; second time was perfect.
