Reference Question

If you held a different position previously at the same company you are currently employed with would you ask the previous manager if they would be a professional reference?

I feel a little weird asking since I am still employed by the same company (like she might tell my current manager) but I think my job responsibilities under this manager matches the job I am currently being considered for and is the most recent with the exception of my current position.

Reference Question

I have moved positions within the same company. My old boss and current boss don't even know each other. I would have no problem asking my old boss for a reference
