Red, hot ear?
My 2.5 year son has one ear that is bright red and very warm to touch. The other ear looks totally normal. He is acting fine, no fever etc, though he is coming off of a long cold. Could this be an ear infection? We haven't had one yet. It's the whole ear that is red - I didn't think that was a typical symptom but what else could it be, especially if it's hot? Thanks for any input! Calling ped tomorrow.

I would keep an eye on it, but this happens if DS has been laying on that side for awhile, or is tired.

Re: Red, hot ear?
Lol, that happens to me even if I slightly touch either ear. My husband will flick my ears just to watch them turn red and get hot (which then stays like that for hours). I say keep an eye on it, but it could just be sensitive ears.

Re: Red, hot ear?
My DS has had that and the ped said it was an allergic reaction, possibly to an insect bite on his ear.

Re: Red, hot ear?
This happened to my DC after a viral illness.
