Recourse when a dry cleaner closes

My DH went to pick up his FDNY uniform from the dry cleaners...just to find out that they had closed...permanently.....

Is there any recourse on this?

EDIT: Did some research and found them!!! They actually moved! Thanks as always ladies

Wow, that stinks! Can you find out who the landlord of the store is? Maybe they can help you. Maybe even call the local town hall - see if they have any info. Not really sure, but I'd try calling anyone I could think of that might have some info on how to get your things

Do they have another location? That happened to me once and I had to drive 30 minutes to pick it up at a different store.

Re: Recourse when a dry cleaner closes

Did you call them? They may have a message explaining what to do. OR they may have the calls forwarded somewhere, or a VM you can leave your # on, that they may be able to call check even though they aren't there anymore.

Did the sign say why they closed? bankruptcy, seized by the IRS, etc?

This is an old
article but it seems to be a well organized version of similar more current info I found in bit & pieces elsewhere, so I think it is still accurate.
