recommendation needed -- nipples for cereal in bottles
my ped recommended putting a small amount of rice cereal in my 3 week olds bottles to help with reflux. only problem is -- we use avent nipples and bought the "variable flow" nipples that you use with cereal but theyre wayyy too fast for DD, she chokes and throwsup which defeats the purpose
what brand bottles/nipples do you use???

Re: recommendation needed -- nipples for cereal in bottles
i tried so many different ones, and in the end, what worked best was to cut a hole in the nipples i used for the reg. formula
the others were too big, too fast and he was only 6 weeks when we started this

i used a steak knife to slice a little line into the slow flow nipples (born free level 1).

Re: recommendation needed -- nipples for cereal in bottles
I tried doing the whole cutting the nipple thing and it didn't work for me. I couldn't get a standard size, and I often ended up cutting it too big and she would be drowninig in it. I use Dr. Brown's bottles and had to experiment with the nipples to see how she did. I have to put alot of cereal into the bottle to keep the formula down. We use 1 tablespoon to every 2oz of formula and use a level 4 nipple. When I try to give her the level 3 nipples she can't get anything out. You may not need that big of a hole if you're not putting as much cereal in. It will be trial and error at first but you will eventually figure it out. I bought a package of all the sizes and just tried them out to see what worked. Once you find what works, at least you will know it is going to be the same every time.

We have to do the rice cereal due to reflux with our DS too. The only bottle/nipple that works for him is the Playtex drop ins with the medium flow nipple. Even the "y" cut that is supposedly made for cereal didn't work.

TY!
we went to BBB to get the nipples, and as always they didnt have any playtex nipples other than slow flow.
we use the playtex dropsins on occasion too maybe well hit BRU and see if they have the medium flow nipples there
