Recommend your vacuum

Ok Ladies...tell me what you have and why you love it.

I really don't want to spend over $500. I have carpet right now on both floors- heavy pile carpet but we're gonna rip up the carpet on the 1st floor (giggetyChat Icon ) and finish the wood floors so I need something good for both.

I also have a short haired dog so I need something good for pet hair.

TIA!!Chat Icon

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I have a dyson 07 and got it in 2005, whenever it goes I will not be getting another one. It does not have great suction and only a small hole to get things into the canister.

I have an Oreck, and absolutely love it! It is lightweight, comes with a hand held vacuum, and has given me no reason not to love it.

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I have an upright Dyson. It has good suction but the attachments are awkward to do stairs or reaching cobwebs. I'd go with a cannister next because I have stairs and I don't think I'd be loyal to dyson either. E

Electolux and the Sears brand are well rated with Consumer Reports.

I have an Electrolux Oxygen Canister and I love it. My dad got it with his American Express points right before he died. He always raved about it so I took it and he was right, best vacuum ever. I have hardwood floors all throughout the house with 2 area rugs. Great on both. So many attachments. Only thing I don't like about it is that it has bags but I had a Hoover bagless and it was a terrible vacuum so I guess I could deal.

ETA: It has great suction, EVEN when the bag is just about full.

Re: Recommend your vacuum

For those of you with the electrolux- is it the older ones or is it post Eureka takeover?

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I also have the Electrolux Oxygen 3 Ultra canister and love it. I bought it in 2008.
Suction is great, even when the bag is full. I have a cat and it picks up her hair very well. Works so much better than my Kennmore bagless upright.
HEPA filters, good attachments.
It is not heavy, and the canister is compact.
Was pricy at $400, but well worth it.

I replaced a 35 year old Viking canister that I could no longer get replacement parts or bags for.

I don't know about the Eureka takeover, or how that affected Electrolux, so can't comment on that.

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I have an electrolux that picks up / works really well but it is HEAVY. I seriously hate carrying the thing up and down the stairs.

I think the one I have is from before the merger... I got it in 2005.

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I have the Shark Navigator Lift Away and it's the best vacuum I've owned so far. It's less than $200 and supposed to be comparable to Dyson vacuums. I love that it's very light and quiet and has strong suction.

Re: Recommend your vacuum

I have this one LG Kompressor

It was rated a best buy from Consumer Reports and is certified by the Asthma and Allergy institute.

I have a coworker who bought the same one shortly after me and likes it better than her mom's Dyson.
