I don't have much of a recommendation but I do know that those inexpensive (and often electric) models, about 1800 psi are considered "disposables" within the industry. They generally last one or two years depending on how much you use them then they stop working and are not worth repairing.
I was reading up on some trying to find some info and from what I could gather you want to get into the 2600 psi range if you plan to do siding or other bigger jobs, and if you're getting up into the 3000 psi those are heavy duty industrial.
I borrowed one last year that had a Honda engine but I don't know who made the resto fo the componants. From what I understand, most powerwashers are assembled from multiple parts sources and so you can't just rely on seeing that it's a Honda engine, for instance, if the rest of the parts are crap.

I would go with a gas one. We have an electric and it is decent but the gas ones are much better.
