I have found this site helpful in my search. If you input the year and the type of car you are interested in it shows you recalls and known problems with that vehicle.

We have an 04 Camry that we love. My brother has an 05 Maxima that he loves too. And my SIL has an 07 Sentra that is great. It's not as small as it used to be.

I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla. I believe when we bought it, it was around $20k. Very good on gas. I really like it.

I have a toyota matrix - its a corolla wagon - it has so much room when the seats fold down.
Someone had told me they were disontinuing it, but I saw new 2008 ones on the Toyota website the other day.

I have the 2007 Jetta wolfsberg and I love it! The trunk is huge and 4 adults packed for a week drove down to NC in it comfortably!

I have an '03 Jetta - I love it, but the backseat is not roomy at all. Not sure how the new ones are - that is my only complaint about it.
