Recommend a midwife!

I had a cesarian with my first LO, and I want to avoid it with #2. (We just started TTC Chat Icon). I really want a midwife that works with an OB, just in case of an emergency. Any recommendations?

Re: Recommend a midwife!

Melanie Summersile at Garden City OB, she works with Dr. Plancher. He was able to monitor my contractions (after they gave me pitocin because labor stalled and I couldn't get it restarted after over an hour) from his home computer, and he was in touch with Melanie every few hours just to check in. I had exactly the delivery I wanted (minus the pitocin), Melanie was great!!!

We are in Suffolk and we are using Stony Brook Midwives. They have four offices and deliver out of Stony Brook Hospital. I have also heard great things about Gaia Midwives, I think they practice out of NUMC Hospital.

I spoke with them. The only thing that concerns me is that you don't know who will deliver you; you get whoever is on duty that day, right?

My sister delivered with the midwives and she was induced and had a long labor so she saw most of the midwives while there because of the changing shifts and what not but I have met every one of the midwives because they try and have you meet them all before you go into labor and they have all been so great so no matter who I get, doesn't matter to me.

They have a meet the midwives night at Stony Brook Hospital where they answer questions for you, etc. You could go to one of those nights and get a feel and see if maybe that is a practice that you would be interested in. They are every first Thursday of the month.

I was much more worried about that problem when I was with an OB practice. At the SB Midwives, I've met almost all of them during the past pregnancies and I feel confident with each of them. Plus, for #1 I was in labor for 29hrs so I went through FIVE of them during their shifts. Then for #2, I had two cases of false labor so I again had more than one midwife.

I highly recommend the Meet the Midwives Tour as well.

Good luck!

I really like sb midwives. I actually have to have a csection and will stool be using them. One will be in the OR with me.

With DD1 I had a long induction and wound up with a cs. It didn't bother me that I saw all of them. They're all great and they're personalities are different but each kind've compliment the other.

Dale of Gaia midwives is also wonderful. She worked out of our office for a number of years. DH was not comfty with home birthing and is not a fan of NUMC hops though.
