Recipe for Hummus?
I love hummus, but at $4 for a small container, I figure its got to be cheaper to make it myself. Has anyone made their own hummus? Is it difficult? Does anyone have a recipe?
Thx!

Re: Recipe for Hummus?
I always make my own, its easy. I don't follow a recipe, I just make it to taste.
I use: Tins of chick peas (rinsed) Tahini Paste Olive Oil Water Lemon Juice Garlic
And I bung it all into the food processor and/or blender and blend it to my own taste. I made some last night and I had no lemon juice, so I used limes, and it still was delish!

Re: Recipe for Hummus?
Though I love tahini, I leave the home made hummus including it to my sisters, and I make a different recipe myself - helps mix things up as we are always having hummus! It's in an awesome cookbook I have geared toward college kids, so the recipes are budget-friendly and require more common appliances assuming you're in college and don't have much.
Garlicy Lemon Hummus Place 3 peeled garlic cloves in a blender with 2 15-oz cans of drained chickpeas, the juice of one lemon, 1/2 cup olive oil, and salt & pepper to taste. Blend until it is all combined - more lemon or oil can be added to taste.

This is the recipe I use too...comes out great every time. I just made it the other day. Sometimes I throw in a bit of red pepper powder to give it kick.

Same thing...I just add a little more garlic and a pinch of cumin.

I actually pick it up in the local mediterranean takeout place, they charge me 85 cents for a little cup of it.
