Recessed medicine cabinets
I did a little looking online, and they all look pretty plain. Just the three panels, or one panel-- but no frames, etc.
Anyone find something that looked less "medicine cabinet-y", kwim??

Re: Recessed medicine cabinets
We had planned to use one that looked like an oval, frameless mirror but then the CAC guys ran the ductwork where we would have to cut into the wall so no recessed cabinets for me. But they make several shapes (oval, circle, cut corner rectangle, etc) and the cabinet itself is still a rectangle.

Re: Recessed medicine cabinets
Several places online and local stores - checked ebay and did searches for medicine cabinet. Locally I checked Consumers, Lowe's, Home Depot, Blackmann and another store on Rt. 109 just east of Rt. 110 (can't think of the name of it right now). Also went to Home Depot Expo when it was around. You can also find things on the Kohler website and the like, although those are usually expensive.

Re: Recessed medicine cabinets
thanks-- I think the issue is that we need a big one. There seem to be more options when they are smaller.
Here is the bathroom-- it's very small, even though it doesn't look so tiny in the pic-- but we need as much storage as possible. Yes, we could put a smaller one over the sink-- but I am worried we won't have enough space for all of our crap. Both DH and I have a lot of stuff..

Re: Recessed medicine cabinets
My parents have one that you can't even tell is a medicine cabinet unless you know it is there. They had a builder make shelves recessed into the wall. Then they had a piece of mirror with a backing built on recessed hinges. It is almost flush with the wall. So unless you knew to look it looks like a floating piece of glass about 1/8 inch away from the wall.

Re: Recessed medicine cabinets
We basically took one that wasn't meant to be recessed and recessed it into the wall.
We opened the box, hung it up and we felt like it stuck out SO much. So we just opened a whole in the wall and pushed it in. Pain in the butt to spackel since it wasn't a square, but it's OK and no one can tell it isn't supposed to be resessed.
Maybe try looking for a 'regular' one that you could do that to, if it's really an issue finding one you like?

We did the same thing in our first home. THey had the 3 panel recessed one and it was really old. We pulled it out and bought one that wasn't meant to be recessed and had someone close up the holes we didn't need.
