really need advice

I am torn, I still do not know if I should do pgd or take my chances again

So many people( doctors, genetic councelors, you lif girls) say they do NOT recommend it BUT after being pregant with twins, losing them both (only positive about one having trismony 21) and then doing a FET from same retrival and then losing another at 20 weeks, due to trismony 21
I am just scared to have to do this again, only to be disappointed.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR ADVICE

Re: really need advice

I have no personal experience with miscarriage so I don't really know how good my advice would be on the subject however I think that if I got a good amount of eggs, I would chance it and do PGD. If I wasn't getting that many eggs I think I might not do PGD. I know that this isn't much help but these things are so variable. Can they give you the odds of conceiving another baby with trisomy 21? THat would influence my decision as well.

Re: really need advice

I have been struggling with the same issue- and all I can say right now is i am so angry at myself for not doing it when I had the chance- who knows what would have happened, but at this point i don't think i could handle another miscarriage- so even though everyone has advised against it (like you said) we are the ones who would have to deal with another loss.

My first IVF I didn't do it because I didn't have enough embryos
second IVF everyone said don't do it- I kind of wish I had done it though- regardless of the # of embryos

I wish you luck with whatever decision you make Chat Icon FM me if you want to talk
I am so sorry you had to go through all thatChat Icon

Re: really need advice

i am doing pgd/ivf. i dont have any fertility problems (that i know of (although i do have a high FSH level) but i have an inheritable disease where i have a 50% chance of passing it along to my children. i havent started my cycle yet (i start this january) but i have heard incredible things about it, and i definitely think in your case it would be beneficial.

any questions FM me! good luck Chat Icon

Not being in your shoes I can only say what I *think* I would do and that is PGD. If you have had recurrent losses due to the same chromosomal issue and it can be identified through the testing then it would totally be worth the bit of piece of mind it could give you.

Re: really need advice

It depends:

If you are young and recurrent T21 was unexpected, have you and/or your doctors considered this:

The extra chromosome 21 material that causes Down syndrome may be due to a Robertsonian translocation in the karyotype of one of the parents. In this case, the long arm of chromosome 21 is attached to another chromosome, often chromosome 14 [45,XX,der(14;21)(q10;q10)]. A person with such a translocation is phenotypically normal. During reproduction, normal disjunctions leading to gametes have a significant chance of creating a gamete with an extra chromosome 21, producing a child with Down syndrome. Translocation Down syndrome is often referred to as familial Down syndrome. It is the cause of 2–3% of observed cases of Down syndrome. It does not show the maternal age effect, and is just as likely to have come from fathers as mothers.

Re: really need advice

I am not in your situation, so I can't give much in the way of advice.

You can read the paragraph below.... but I just realized that the gal I was talking about is YOU!!!!! I guess you won't be FMing yourself. Chat Icon

There is a gal on this board who is doing two IVF cycles in a row (I can remember her name). She will take the embryos from both cycles and have them tested. If I find her name I will post here again. SHe might be someone you want to FM.

I hope this all works out for you!
