Really Mad and Need Advice
Ok, so on Wednesday I had an appointment with a midwife that I don't usually see. My ears had been hurting me pretty badly, so I asked her to look at them. She looks at them, tells me there is nothing wrong with my ears, no signs of an ear infection etc.She also said that the antibiotics I'm already on for a UTI would clear up and ear infection. She was very rude, and I felt rushed out of there. Ok, so I got home. That night, I got no sleep and had a ton of liquid coming out of my ears. I cried all night and ended up going to the ER. The doctor looked at my ears and told me I had a very severe ear infection in both ears, and that I should have come in sooner. I told him I had seen my midwife the day before, and he told me there is no possible way she would have missed this infection. He said that it was a very severe infection, one of the worst he's seen. I told him that the midwife had said the antibiotics I'm already on would clear it up, and he said that they definitely wouldn't, and that any RN would have known that. I want to complain to my regular midwife about this one. I feel that I was put through unecessary pain and frustration because the midwife was in too much of a rush to help me. I just don't want my midwife to think I'm being b!tchy about it. What would you do?

I would definitely mention it to the other midwife. Was she clueless or simply negligent? I think if your infection was that severe where it landed you in the ER and the Dr. said it shouldn't have been missed through an exam, someone needs to be aware of this. Who's to say she hasn't missed other red flags or will in the future? She needs to be called out on the table for this. I hope you're feeling better soon!

I think you need to say something. If the midwife missed something like this and gave you incorrect information about medication, you need to say something.

IMHO, you definately have a right to be bytchy about this! She should have known better. You should not have had to run to the emergency room for something she should have caught.
I would definately tell your midwife. Maybe say something in a way which does not sound like you are attacking the woman, but how disappointed you are that she did not have you in her best interest.
Hope you feel better

They would def. here it from me. You could have gotten really sick! I hate when you have an appointment and have to wait forever to get in, and then they rush you out! So unbelievable, I might even consider switching.

I think she was being negligent. My appointment was right before lunch time, and it seemed like she couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Complain complain complain. An RN should have known this and this is very scary that she is employed. Im so sorry you had to go through this and the pain. I would also make sure to NEVER see her again!

I totally agree! Your normal midwife should def know about that, especially if she doesn't know what she is doing!
So sorry you had to go through that
