Really embarassing question regarding planting lettuce?
So we made our first garden and things are growing .
One of the things we planted was lettuce so we planted the whole packet. Is one teeny tiny seed one whole head of lettuce or does a seed produce one leaf (I know dumb)?
If it produces a head I will be the woman selling it on the side of the road in NJ

Re: Really embarassing question regarding planting lettuce?
one seed prodoces a head. if they are too close together some with die off. with lettuce you can cut the leaves off to eat when they are big enough & it will keep growing back. lettuce isn't fond of really hot weather either, its gets bitter so cut it to eat as soon as its big enough. as your other plants like tomatoes get taller you can sprinkle more lettuce seed under them, the lettuce will be happy to grow in the shade from the other plant. good luck with your garden!!!

Re: Really embarassing question regarding planting lettuce?
Thank you! I guess we are going to be eating a lot of salad! I dumped 1 packet of seeds into 2, 2foot rows. I don't know what I was thinking because everything else is growing fine. That is great tip about the tomatoes. I just bought them so I have to plant and we will how that goes.
