A spit-up or burpee cloth is for spitting up. Most people use the cloth diapers (not sure if they still call them that).

I think you could use them for both swaddling and for a spit up clothChat Icon

Jack got good height and distance when he spit up so we used them as a coverup when burping and also I'd roll them and use them as an extra support in the infant seat, stroller, swing..

Never to swaddle him though that's what we used the miracleblanket for.

I have so many I never used.

Re: really dumb question?

I used receiving blankets for "loose" swaddling-while holding the baby while awake, etc. I also rolled them like a "bumper" around the top of the bassinet, and used them to put the baby down to play when she had tummy time. I used burp cloths for burping, but definitely used a receiving blanket for burping in a pinch. Chat Icon

Re: really dumb question?

we used lightweight cotton receiving blankets to swaddle for about 8 weeks or so, I have the miracle blanket now since then and love it. Personally I think the swaddle me stinks! I have two and never use them. For burp cloths I use the cloth diapers, they are much bigger and absorbent than the "fancy" burp cloths, IMO the "fancy" ones are a waste of money.

Re: really dumb question?

i used them as an extra blanket if we were at a restaurant or someithng just to cover Sara

When I had Sammy 4 years ago I didnt know about the swaddle blanket so I used the receiving as a swaddler.

Re: really dumb question?

I dont use receiving blankets for spit up - I use burp cloths for that.

I didnt care for the swaddle me blankets so I swaddle my daughter with the receiving blankets. I also roll them up for extra support in her car seat and swing...

Re: really dumb question?

I keep them in her diaper bag so if we go out and need a light blanket to cover her, also if we go to someones house and lay her on the couch or someones bed we put them down under her incase she spits up or if there is pet hair on the furniture.

Re: really dumb question?

We used them for swaddling until she got too big.

We still use them now that she is 7 months. I use them to cover her while she is sleeping because they are thin so I don't woory about them bundling up by her face as much.

Also on the floor to lay her on.

Re: really dumb question?

Before they had the Swaddle Me and the Miracle Blanket, all people had to swaddle babies with was receiving blankets. Many people still use them for that. I have used them for that in addition to using them as burp cloths, to lay her on, to cover her with and to put under her back while sleeping in order to "tilt" her to one side a little bit in case she spit up in her sleep.

I used the receiving blankets when he was first born for loose swaddling while holding him. Now that he is older, i only use them for covering him while in the food stores since they are so cold in the summer, and to lay on the floor while he does tummy time.
