That's crazy!!!

Can you go to home depot and get a piece and do it yourself?? A part of our fence came down and DH was able to do this.

ITA. If it's a basic stockade fence it won't cost you much at all (maybe $50 or so for the piece)

did you give them how much you needed replaced (footage)? Sounds like they qouted you to replace the WHOLE fence..otherwise $1000 for one piece is insane. Chat Icon

Exactly. Even if you had to rent one of their trucks to get it home, it's about $100 total. I've replaced about 75% of all the fence sections at one time or other on my property. To replace a section, it only takes about 10 minutes, and one person can usually do it themselves. I've done almost all my panels by myself.

Re: Really $1k?

I'd look in the Pennysaver for a local handyman. I can't imagine them charging much.

Re: Really $1k?

The posts and lining them up and properly securing them is the trickiest part of putting in a fence. If your posts are okay then no issues SCREWING in the panel. Do not nail it in because i realized after putting nails into a panel of my neighbors fence it did absolutely nothing (since wood expands and contracts) i used a wood screw and it worked.

Re: Really $1k?

They are looking to make $$ because they will have to send a few guys out and pay those guys for the day and they want to make a profit on top of it..

If you/your DH can fix it, then go for it.. much cheaper.. otherwise, get a handyman to fix it for you and just buy the supplies.. Chat Icon

Re: Really $1k?

I called a local contractor (guy who cleared my driveway a few weeks ago when it snowed. He has a construction biz. He is going to quote me on fixing that one piece, replacing the entire fence with a wood replacement and pvc. He thought $1K was ludicrous.

Umm, FM me if you want my guy's info. They were here this morning and took out our falling down stockade and installed 64' of PVC and a 12' double gate in the driveway for $1,700. They're just about done, too, and it's only 1 o'clock!

We did our entire fence ourselves...and we are NOT handy people. I think all of the pieces together came out to be about $200 and then we got frustrated painting it so paid someone $100 to finish it.
