What is the current / average commission % in NY/LI right now.
Looking to list a sale.

6% is the max
5-4% is average

I would say you should be able to get 4%. You should call a few agents to get quotes

We found the rates were slightly negotiable. it doesn't hurt to ask.

4% is standard... if they are good.
3 and 3.5% may be possible.

1st and foremost a legal disclosure.
"All commissions are negotiable"
It depends on what you are looking for.
Full service? Part timer? Just a helper, Flat fee(just put me on MLS and I will sell it myself)
Seasoned Agent, or up and coming.
I would make sure I was comfortable with the agent and agreed with the marketing plan and see if you are comparing apples to apples.
Flat fees start around 1,000.00
Percentage base commissions are always negotiable.
I always believe you get what you pay for, but what do I know. I am just a Realtor.

4% (2% for my agent and 2% for the buyers agent) if my agent got the selller than only 3.5%.
but it ended up the buyers had a "buyers agent" and he needed 2.5% so we up'ed the price to cover his extra 1/2 percent.
