? re running
My 1st 5k I ran it in 27min50sec that was a few months ago and I know I have picked up my pace a little but I'm still in the 27mins range. I in another race in May and my goal is to get somewhere between 25-26mins. Is there any tips on how to pick up the speed or just try running faster

Speed workouts are a great way to improve your times. (I should take my own advice)

Re: ? re running
speed workouts will definitely help.
intervals: going a certain distance fast (85-90% speed for like 1/4 mile) and then recovering slowly for about half the time. You can do these easily on a track or treadmill or with the nike+ (I think you have it). If not you can estimate or do a timed amount...90 seconds fast; 45-60 recovery.
start with doing it four times and every other week increase it by one.
tempo workouts: easy third...build up to a fast middle ("comfortably hard")...easy end -- but if you are looking to do distance races...you have to do distance tempo runs.
I tend to do these more than intervals.

Re: ? re running
Definitely speed workouts and hill workouts. Try and do your recovery at a slow jog instead of a walk.
I just added this in the mix and it has helped. I also started running with people who run a tad faster than me and that has helped too!
Good luck!
