RE lawyer vent
Yesterday, DH and I get a call from our lawyer that the buyer of our house pulled out of the contract and didn't sign it so we are back to square one with that as my other two bidders found other houses in the last two weeks. Not sure what happened because they really did love the house and even brought several family members for the inspection just to show them the house. Being a teacher I get a legal benefit from my union, they pay for attorney's fees at closing... three closings in 5 years. The paralegal we have been assigned to is obnoxious and the lawyer does nothing, spoke to us for 5 minutes when we signed the contract for our new house. They are very slow to get things done.
Yesterday, as part of the message she informs us that we incurred a $75. fee for drawing up the contract and we have to pay it because the buyer pulled outt She's so slow to do everything else but guess what I get in the mail today... THE BILL for the $75. fee, less than 24 hours later
DH and I are exploring other law firm recommendations for the sale. We will never use them again. We'd rather pay someone else.
Their letters start with F, K, and M and one of their offices is in Hauppague. I know most of you are first time buyers but beware when you eventually want to sell.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: RE lawyer vent
I wouldn't pay the $75. Screw them. Reason lack of prompt service when things needed to be done.
But maybe you won't be able to do that since you are already in contract with them on the house you are buying.

Ugh God that stinks! I'm sorry the buyer pulled out!!!
Your atty sounds like a real winner - get rid of them. Fight the $75 too!
If you need a referral for an atty, we were happy with ours (as you know we were in contract within a week!).

Re: RE lawyer vent
ugh - I'm so sorry to hear that. our sellers used the teachers union lawyer (I should look up to see if its the same) and boy did they mess things up. our lawyer was ready to pull out the few strand of hair he had left. they added things to the contract after signing, they wrote the wrong deposit amount down, and they took the file with them on vacation so no one could do anything with it while they were gone.
I'm glad that you are getting new council...good luck!!!

Oh good, so it's not just me!
Kathy, I thought of you. I told DH that you were in contract within a week while our lawyer said it would take two weeks for the paperwork to go back and forth.
I'm FMing you for the info.
