Random question/observation on the election process & the media

Of course the media is all over the election & the bid for the presidency. Of course during this time some things come out that make you (you as in the voting public, not any one person in particular) change your mind about who you'd like to see in office. The problem is, your primary has alredy been held & there's no changing your vote.

So here's what I'm asking....should all of the nominating primaries all be on the same day & have the same 2 year media blitz? Doesn't it seem unfair that the people in PA have more information than we did? Or should the debates all be before the first primary & then mum's the word until all voting is concluded?

Thoughts?

I think making the primaries all on the same day would be a good idea because then everyone would have the same information, and it would also eliminate the dragging on of the nomination that is happening now.
On the flip side of later primaries having more information about the candiates than the earlier ones - often a candiate wins so many early primaries everyone else drops out of the race and the later states don't even get a chance to vote. (like John McCain).

What is the reason primaires are held so far apart? To give candiates time to campaign for an extended amount of time in each state?

As a staunch federalist, no, I don't think all states should be forced to have their primaries on the same day. Also, I think a federal law forcing the states to have their primaries all on the same day could be unconstitutional...

OK, but given how you feed, do you think that some states have a natural advantage/disadvantage depending on where their election is in the grand scheme of the process?

It depends on the election. In the past, the states with later primaries were at a disadvantage because the winner was often chosen a lot earlier. PA may feel that it has an advantage in the DEMOCRATIC primary this year, but it sure doesn't in the Republican primary.

I think the whole process should be shorter. It feels like this has been going on forever. They start out seeing how people feel well before they toss their hat in the ring, then the campaigning and debates for the nomination, and then it all starts over again for the actual election. It's just too long for me. I feel like if it was a shorter process they'd stick to the issues more than the petty nonsense that comes out.

I'm thinking more that Chelsea is getting asked almost daily now about Monica, how Meghan McCain gets negative press about her blog, etc. How does that at all relate to the election? But I've seen multiple stories about both in multiple outlets in the past few months. To me that's just an indication that this has dragged on WAY too long and the media is grasping for stories.
