Random question...

How many inches does your fridge stick out beyond the edge of your cabinets? We are trying to choose a new fridge and don't know how much is too much.
thanks

I would say more than 3 inches or so it starts to look kinda out of place, tacky that kind of thing. Although it also depends on how much space will be between the price and whatever it faces. If it is already very narrow I would go with a smaller fridge that fits flush with the cabinet for a clean look.

Re: Random question...

hehe - I just posted somethign about this ona thread above.

I am redoing my kitchen and my designer will not allow it to stick out. If I don't get a counter depth fridge then my designer said she will push out the oven (which is next to my fridge) and use panels to even it all out. Leaving basically air space behind the oven. A few people (designers/appliance centers) - all said if you redo your kitchen you want this or else it looks like you have a new kitchen and stuck in a fridge that doesn't fit. But doing this will have wasted space behind my oven - and can make the kitchen appear smaller and then I will have to shorten my island.

I think it depends where your fridge is in your layout though. Currently where mine is positioned - it sticks out a couple inches and looks so-so. In my new design - it would not look good at all.

It stinks since counter depth's are so much smaller esp since I want french doors...so now I am starting to look at side by sides instead and forgo the look I love - I found 2 that I like that are counter depth and close to 25 cu feet (which is what I have now). The french door ones were only about 20ish cu feet for counter depth models.

Re: Random question...

I purchased a fridge that is cabinet depth because I wanted a built in look. It's a stainless, bottom freezer Kitchen Aide. I love it. It dispenses purified water on the INSIDE (not that ugly front of door "insert cup here" dispenser- JMO). I had side panels that match my cabinets made for the sides of the fridge so I didn't have to see those black sides that come with so many stainless fridges.
But ask for cabinet-depth fridges. They are shorter in depth...but wider. GREAT for keeping fridge organized. My fridge is huge.

Re: Random question...

Thanks everyone for all your responses.

Joenick and Niecey...do you know what the depth and width in inches is of a counter depth fridge is? I'm not too concerned that the overall cubic feet will be smaller because we live in a NYC apt now so whatever we get for our condo will be bigger. Plus, our new kitchen is not big so too big a fridge will be overwhelming.
TIA!!

Re: Random question...

So I just measured my fridge with a broken yardstick, and I'm not great with the measuring so this is not an exact!! I measured depth at around 24 inches and width at about 35 inches. It was hard to really measure depth because it's built into my cabinets so I measured the depth of my counters. I hoped that helped...even a little.

Re: Random question...

It doesn't.

The cabinets next to my fridge are extra deep though and the fridge itself is in a cabinet/box. My FIL was the designer and measured everything 1,000,000 times. He couldn't live with himself if it was off the tiniest bit.
