Random guy coming door to door to sell Candy

Kid w a reflective vest came to the door to sell candy (brand I have never seen before) I said no thanks and he asked if we could donate one dollarChat Icon

Has anyone else had this? I did not donate and became visibly annoyed at that point.

Maybe I will invest in a no soliciting sign, I feel nervous having random strangers ringing my bell.

ETA: he was a teenager and had no flyer or anything to ID what he was collecting for. We've never had this before, is a quiet out of the way neighborhood. The whole thing just made me question what was it about. It was weird, the candy was just thrown in a box and very random junk.

I used to do it all the time for plays. I think it makes a difference if it were a kid or a man. If it was a kid, was there a parent with him? Did he say the cause? Have any flyers or anything?

Re: Random guy coming door to door to sell Candy

I have kids in my neighborhood selling candy at least once a month. It's crazy how often I get all kind of solicitors.
I'm kind of Leary with giving them money. They are always selling such random cookies, chocolates out of a Tupperware bin. What happened to those fundraiser boxes they used to give out with candy bars. I know they are not from my neighborhood. A car drives around and picks them up as they walk.
I hate people coming to my door!!!

Re: Random guy coming door to door to sell Candy

A few years back my parents had a little girl (maybe 8 or 9) come to the door selling candy bars. I'm not sure if she was with any organization. She then asked if she could use the phone to call her ride to come pick her up. Of course they let her but they were also REALLY weirded out and upset about it.

I understand legit kids selling for school or sports but anything else is not cool.

I've had this happen to me as well, well, not the part about asking to use the phone but had a very young (IMO) child going door to door at night selling candy bars and other assorted stuff.

It makes me so angry that these people do that with kids. The last time it happened this boy was at best, maybe ten, it was the dead of winter and it was later in the evening, like after nine. There was no reason for this child to be out that late peddling candy door to door. I don't care what they're raising money for, that's just too much.

I really don't understand this as well. I went food shopping at Keyfood and there was this little kid selling candy, alone! He had to be about 7 years old near a parking lot. He asked if I could buy candy and I asked him where his parents are. I was so worried for him, standing alone near a parking lot. Some parents have no clue!!

He pointed to a car ALL the way down the block and said his mom was there. I called the cops, and reported it. I don't chance these things and I don't feel right knowing a small child like this is left alone in a parking lot, God forbid anything. JMI

He was alone , I def felt like someone just dropped him off because we are off the beaten path. Me too! It's bothering me that he came to the door, I'm too paranoid

This happened to us last week when DH answered the door. The minute DH saw the big rubbermaid tub that the teen was holding, he said he wasn't interested in buying anything. The teen didn't get to give his whole sales pitch. He got really upset and told DH that he was "f'ing disrespectful" Chat Icon

DH said the whole interaction was really shady.
