 Raise Poll
What would you consider a significant raise?
ETA What about if the raise was part of a promotion?

 Re: Raise Poll
At my previous company 5% was standard, so I would consider 8% to be a great raise. Anything above 10% would have involved either a promotion or an offer letter from another company.
Now I have my own business, so I am just happy to still be in business at the end of the year

No, but if your boss told you that you would be getting a significant raise, what would you think that would mean, minimum?

Well, if I had been receiving regular raises, I would personally find an 8% raise significant. My company (when we used to get raises) were pretty much under 6%. More often than not, it was closer to 3 or 4%.

I got an 8% 2 years ago, and that was the most significant I've gotten without changing positions to a higher level (I work for the state). Other than that, my union usually negotiates a 3-4% cost of living increase per year (I don't consider this significant).

 Re: Raise Poll
Ummmm I look at the numbers more...
I mean... a 10% raise at 30,000 to me is not a good raise...
Honestly a 10% raise at 100,000 isn't a good raise in my eyes either...
I think 10,000 + is a good raise, but if you are making 100,000+ I always think 15,000-20,000 plus is better.
But I guess maybe I am talking promotions more then just raises...
I was never at a job that you got standard raises every year...

 Re: Raise Poll
Any of those I guess. My last raise (the first one in awhile due to the economy) was about 2.5%. My prior rasie, which came with a promotion, was about 11%.

 Re: Raise Poll
I got a promotion 2 years ago and almost a 13% raise. I thought that was really great! So i say anything above 10% close to 15% equals a great promotion or new job offer.
