Sorry to sound so ignorant, but how do you get to watch American tv shows like KN or AI? Is there a channel like BBC here?

Re: Racheeeeeeeee
That’s a good question…thanks for asking.
I think what happens is that a television channel buys them, and depending on the price of the television show, that sort of dictates what channel buys the programme. For example Lost was originally on Channel 4, but in a bidding war it went to Sky (which is a cable channel) Strictly Come Dancing, which is the UK version of Dancing with the stars is on BBC1 on Sat/Sun nights, but the US version is on UKGOLDTV which is a cable channel with very little fanfare. But Strictly Come Dancing in amazingly popular. In the UK many of the TV networks have a sort of reputation that they uphold, so for instance, BBC1 is intellectual and family oriented, BBC 2 is more cutting edge and has more comedy, ITV is sort of a tabloid station and Channel 4 is very much the most modern, artsy and sort of pushing the envelope channel. Also, there are a handful more BBC channels and the other channels have more than one sort of support station, so you might get Channel 4, E4 (shows more modern young shows) and during Big Brother all of E4 is 24 hour feed of the BB house. American Idol is shown on ITV2, now ITV is the home of the X Factor, which is the UK version of AI…but kind of different.
Anyway, I am digressing. But that’s how we see our American shows. My husband does download quite a few programmes and we watch them that way, but in general we get all the television shows within a few weeks.

I have seen XFactor...maybe Youtube, but you get to see what REALLY happens on BB??? That's crazy!!!
Anyway, okay, I understand now. Now, if the public hears about an American show and they want it aired in the the UK, do they get a say or is it all about how popular it is in America?

I think a lot of it is about the hype around something, so if all the sort of hollywood reports and figures shows its popular, they get bought. But to be honest, I don't really know much about how they get on the air. You get to see most everything on BB, but with a 15 minute delay. At times they play birdsong over the voices as to avoid lawsuits and talking about controversial stuff, but we get to see most of what happens.
Whilst I appear to know all, its just a facade...
