R&P - so confused
working on our registry and I am so overwhelmed!
so are the R&P used for sleeping naps, nighttime or just sitting in during the day? I have cats, if I will have the baby sleeping initially in the R&P in our room how will I make sure the cats wont touch the baby as the R&P so low to the floor? (the cats get very sticky during the night as they miss us and must sleep with us ) which one shld I get? the baby bargain book confused me. or do different purposes have dif ones that fit?
help!

Re: R&P - so confused
We used the R&P for naps, lounging in it during the day, and she also slept in it right next to our bed until she outgrew it at about 6 months. And it's really not that close to the floor. I had this one: Fisher Price Rock n Play

Re: R&P - so confused
we used the r&p to rest during the day, sit near the kitchen table when we ate, and occasionally for naps. We wanted DS to sleep on a flat surface at night so he had an easier transition to crib. We also have cats but locked them out of our bedroom for the 5 weeks DS slept in our room, because we were worried the cats would jump in the bassinet.

R&P - so confused
the swing & bouncy seat are much closer to the floor than the RNP. Not that cats wouldnt be able to jump into any of them.
Hailey slept in the RNP until she was 1

we have a cat who sleeps with us and I was worried about it being an issue but it never was one! she continued to sleep with us and the baby was in the rNp in the beginning and she never got too close at all.
a side note: our cat loves us, but has been known to hiss at friends and family (she gives cats their bad rep lol), but our cat has never ONCE in DS's 4 months with us hissed or swatted at him. in fact, she rubs up against him with affection if we reach his hands out to her. at first she pretty much just ignored his presence but now I think she knows he belongs to our family and she treats him that way I couldn't be happier with the transition because I was very stressed about that too. good luck!

Re: R&P - so confused
We used the rnp snugabunny unnu as a bassinet for the first 7 weeks. Dd slept in our room and we also have 2 cats. They never once touched her.
We also traveled with it and dd slept in it at the hotel. I also used it in the bathroom so I could shower.
Never really used it for naps bc she napped in the swing.

I only use it at night for him to sleep next to my bed. During the day I rotate him in his bouncy seat, swing and pack n play

Re: R&P - so confused
We used the Rock n play for night time sleep. First in our room (about am month) then in his own nursery till we transitioned to the crib around 5 months. Our 3 kitties never took a real interest to the RnP especially if the baby was in it. Same with the crib, once he was home and in the crib they weren't really interested.

Re: R&P - so confused
my opinion won't be the popular one on here...but I hate the RNP. During the day it's fine...But for nighttime sleeping the AAP recommends sleeping flat on the back and the rnp isn't flat. I also don't like the idea of keeping a baby buckled in to sleep. Developmentally it just doesn't seem like the best option to me. There were many complaints about hip dysplasia as well but from what i have been told they slimmed the fabric in the belt area to help with this issue...still though...I feel it's better to let the baby sleep and move as they need to once they are past the swaddle / startle reflex stage.

DD had hip dysplasia and she was perfectly comfy in the rnp while wearing the harness that ensured her hips were in a correct position (although I didn't use the buckle). I'd never heard anything negative related to that before. I do agree that I preferred she not sleep in it at night. We used it for some naps and just hanging out during the day but she slept in the bassinet at night before she moved to the crib around 8 weeks. We had a basic version without any of the extra padding or vibration and I loved that it was cool and breathable for summertime.

I don't snap my son in. He hates being restrained and I don't think there is a way he would fall out of it, or is there? Maybe I should start

I had a concern regarding having the baby sleep the whole night in this thing exactly due to what ur reasoning is, so that is why I wanted to start right away having him sleep in his crib. DH the one that wants the baby in the room tho. We shall see... I just wanted to make sure that either way the R&P is elevated from the floor enough that if we wanted to have him there we can and the cats wont be trying to sit on top of the baby LOL tnx for highlighting this issue

I actually agree with you, while DS didn't have any issues (other than flat head which I attribute to sleeping in the RNP corrected itself) he never transitioned to his crib well-- I think he was too used to sleeping on an incline. I plan to use the crib from day one with the new baby.
I will use RNP for naps and daytime

Re: R&P - so confused
My son took naps and slept all night in his R & P, bc he had reflux…He stopped sleeping in it when he was about 1. It was a life saver for us…or we would have never slept!!
It was great to take on vacation, and it folded up so nicely and went everywhere in the car :)

This. Had the RnP for resting during the day and the occasional nap, to hang out in during dinner or doing dishes, etc., but not at night as we wanted a flat surface. We have three rescue kitties but they weren't allowed in our room when DS was in there bc I was paranoid about them sleeping with/on him. However, I will tell you that when he wasn't in the RnP or swing, which were both kept in common areas downstairs, they still NEVER went in either. Not sure why, maybe bc of his scent? And they love him but they still didn't go in there. But I wouldn't take any chances just in case.

Re: R&P - so confused
My DS was always swaddled when in the rocknplay so never needed to be strapped in (he wasn't going anywhere). Just another option :) You might be lucky and your LO may do fine sleeping flat on his back. We wouldn't have slept @ all if not for the RocknPlay hehe and while the transition wasn't easy it was only a few weeks of disruption vs months and months of zero sleep. So worth it for us.
