Questions re: child care

I plan to start babysitting in my home in September. Ideally, I would take in only 1 child. Hoping to watch a teachers child, so that we are on the school schedule. I am a SAHM and my oldest is in Kindergarten.

I have NO idea what to charge though. What is a "fair" price to pay for full time child care? I am only planning on charging for the days that the child is with me. In other words, if the child is sick, and stays home one day, I will not make the parents pay me.

Also, where to advertise? How did you find your child care provider?

I think somewhere between 50-60/day would be a fair price for a 8-10 hour day. You could advertise on craislist or your local penny saver.

I am Upstate so things may be a bit different, but here in home licensed daycare is $1000 a month, I'm not sure what it would be for unlicensed.

I will be paying $50 per day and can have him there 7-5:30. I only pay for the days he goes.

I used to pay $40/day 7-6 (if needed) only the days DS was there. She took the same 2 weeks off each year. When I was looking I'd say average in home was between $40-55/day.

I would try to go word-of-mouth and see how that works, at least its someone you know or they know...

also, ask your local schools to post a flyer in their teacher's lounge. try to do it now so you can get it out there before the school yr ends.

that's a HUGE plus and a rare find nowadays that you wont charge on a sick day. that's very nice of you. many inhome daycares want a set price monthly.

I watch a teacher's kid.

dropped off at 8:30 AM...picked up by 3:30.

50.00 a day.

only get paid for days he is here.

he comes with his own food.

I do pay for a lot of his activities, his mom really isn't into all that.

ETA: I went through craigslist.

also, it was suppose to be under the table. Once tax time came and she chatted things up with her accountant, her tune changed. Just discuss that ahead of time.

I am also thinking of babysitting at my house, since I am a SAHM and I think somewhere between 40-50 a day for full time( Mon-Fri 7-8 hrs a day) is fair.
I guess that's about 200-250 a week.
My friend was babysitting someone's kid full time in LI and she was charging 250 a week.
Now she is babysitting her husbands cousin's kid and she charges them 200 a week since it's family. But they bring their own food and diapers (which I think is expected anyway)

we pay $55/day. We found our babysitter through word of mouth. If she doesnt go (vacations, sick, etc) we dont pay. She also will feed DD if we dont send food. (she makes the baby food from scratch)

mine wanted to pay me for sick days, but I told her not to worry about it.

I see it as an extra incentive for her to stay at home with her sick kid and not send him over to my house with his germs.

She gets to stay home with him, she saves 50 that week...I felt like if she was paying me for the day, she might as well send him.

Personally, I would not feel "right" about getting paid to watch a child if the child was home sick KWIM?

Our babysitter charges $6/hour which comes out to $50 a day. She has been doing it a while so I got a recommendation from someone who had used her. I would go to the schools to advertise your services.
